Dark streaks may follow injury with trapped blood. Without trauma, urgent medical review is wise since a single unexplained band can indicate skin cancer. Called melanonychia, some lines relate to drugs, pregnancy, or natural pigmentation, yet any new, widening, or darkening streak must be examined to rule out subungual melanoma. Early detection is critical.
