Tiny stature does not equal low maintenance. Chihuahuas often bond intensely with one person and may become defensive if startled squeezed or pursued by young kids who misread signals. Because they are small adults sometimes overlook training and boundaries which can foster guarding of laps or toys. Gentle socialization confidence building handling exercises and teaching children to interact at ground level rather than picking them up reduce stress. Their fragility also means accidental drops or falls can cause injury.
